At The Point

At The Point!

Former New York Knicks point guard Jason Kidd is the new Head Coach for the Brooklyn Nets, he's gone from the floor to the bench but he's still at the point! Kidd has always been a coach on the floor and is known to be well respected by players, his transition into the ranks of Head Coach was expected but maybe not this quick... His selection comes with some trepidation by the prognosticators but to his peer group there's no surprise at all.

There are many former guards that have gone onto experience great success as Head Coaches in the NBA for example; Doc Rivers, Avery Johnson, Byron Scott and Scott Skiles to name a few. I would expect Jason Kidd to join the ranks of a player at the point that does well long term. The big surprise is that the Nets passed on Indiana Pacers Assistant Head Coach Brian Shaw, who has worked with the Los Angeles Lakers under Phil Jackson during the Championship years. Shaw would be more then qualified, even more so then Kidd. In this particular situation, Brooklyn Nets couldn't loose either way!

the Brooklyn Nets current general at the point is Deron Williams, both Jason Kidd and Williams are good friends and have been for years. The relationship between the two is expected to be one of mutual respect and could work well together given the fact Kidd was a player this year and understands the demands placed on a point guard. Williams just wants to win and his direction on the court has been important to every team he's played for. If nothing else its going to be an exciting team to watch when the NBA kicks off next season...

At The Point, Jason Kidd Takes Head Coach Position

Do you think Jason Kidd will be successful as a Head Coach having not spent anytime working as an apprentice under an experienced Coach or will his time at the point be all the experience he'll need? Some players that have been out of the league for years have still not been given the opportunity to be a Head Coach, guys like Patrick Ewing and Brian Shaw may feel its unfair for guys to get a shot at the top without paying their dues. I think Kidd has been preparing for this for several years and is more then ready to take the point to start his second career...
