Fans Against Child Abuse

Fans Against Child Abuse

Sports fans of all genres across the country have joined forces to bring greater public awareness to child abuse, neglect and bullying. Abuse among children is out of control and the only way to stop it is to first stimulate a dialog about the problem. For too long this subject has been swept under the rug but enough is enough! What A Fan, the Miller's Ale House and Orlando Harley Davidson together with FANS AGAINST CHILD ABUSE are bringing this topic to the forefront... Change is not easily done especially when its a topic that touches us as deeply as child abuse does but without a people willing to have a conversation about this horrific problem things will never change...

Can Fans Play Nice Together?

Can Fans Play Nice Together?

Sports fans embody a level of passion that can only be described as fanatical, they're so vested in the success and failure of the teams they love that their vision of respect for opposing fans can sometimes be blurred. We want to explore the question, can fans play nice together? We believe they can, the majority of sports fans coexist every day at sporting events all around the World. Its unfortunate the actions of a few bad seeds can bring such negative attention to the such a massively positive group.

Sports fans are represented by such a wide range of characters and personalities that it is actually pretty amazing we don't hear more incidents of mass hysteria at sporting events. The fact of the matter is fans have more in common with each other then not! Can fans play nice together? The answer is yes, definitely... We believe over the next few years the Sports Fan Conference will not only build bridges and bonds of sports fans in other genres, but it will establish relationships that will help end negativity of fans visiting opposing team games!!!

Cmon Man! courtesy of Fox Sport

All fans and I mean ALL FANS have the right to express their passion, their support, rep their teams colors and cheer for their team whether they're at home or on the road... No fan of any sport or team should be fearful of wearing or cheering at any stadium or arena and this is an area fans most police ourselves... There's no excuse for behavior that prevents opposing fans from expressing the same passion for their team that you have for yours and if you're not part of the solution then you're part of the problem... Yes fans can play nice together and its up to the fans to ensure we do!!!

Can Fans Play Nice Together? Absolutely!

The time has come for sports fans to be more responsible for our actions and more respectful of fellow fans! We can not continue to ignore the issues that we all know exist in the stadiums and arenas we all occupy during our favorite sporting events. We can not place all the responsibility of the organizations we cheer for, it has to come down to all of us stepping up and policing ourselves... Sports fans are the most amazing group of loyal, passionate and supportive people... We should welcome opposing fans with open arms of respect, hell the best way to give an opposing fan grief is the cheering your team onto victory! Please keep this in mind, lets stand for fans! Can fans play nice together? Absolutely!

NBA Finals, 7 The Hard Way

NBA Finals, 7 The Hard Way!

The Miami Heat will host game 7 of the NBA Finals and possibly hoist the Championship trophy over their heads for the second straight year, standing in their way are the four time Champions San Antonio Spurs. Its the NBA Finals, 7 the hard way and no one knows that better then Ray Allen who saved the Heats season with a three pointer from the corner that took the game into overtime. Everyone witnessing the game probably thought the Spurs would be celebrating their fifth NBA Championship on the Heats home floor, but not the Miami Heat Players...

As fans were heading towards the exit in the fourth quarter Heat players were clawing their way back into a game that seemed to be all but lost... NBA officials were roping off the floor, the trophy was being positioned all while the game was still being played. During the posting game interviews several of the Miami Heat players said this was big motivation for the team, they were not going to have a celebration in their house that night... The Heat continue on, its the NBA Finals 7 the hard way!

Playing in the NBA Finals is the dream of every kid hoping to one day put on an NBA uniform, but playing in a game 7 in front of the home fans and family doesn't get any better then that! If you're superstitious you may think game six and the to three pointers Lebron James and Ray Allen hit to get the Heat to a NBA Finals game 7 the hard way is a sign for Miami, but the Spurs have come back to win the every time they've lost this series and that could spell trouble for the Heat... Whatever the outcome of tonight's game 7, game 6 was one for the ages...

NBA Finals, 7 The Hard Way! May Just Be The Best Way!

The best thing about game 7 is its for all the marbles, you don't get another shot! Its win or loose, you have a great summer or you're reliving every mistake and second guessing every play... Tonight fans will be glue to the television packed into the Heat arena or inside the Spurs arena, tonight is the NBA's Superbowl... It's the NBA Finals, 7 the hardy!

Is There A Doc In The House?

Is There A Doc In The House?

Boston Celtics fans have enjoyed the benefits of having Doc Rivers as their Head Coach for the last decade, during his run he brought the organization another Championship and energized the Celtics pride once more. All this talk about him possibly going to another team has fans wondering is there a Doc in the house? Things have heated up between the Celtics and Doc because of the ongoing dialog between Doc and the Los Angeles Clippers. What started out as just whispers around the league as just speculation has become full blown negotiation, including talk of future Hall of Famer Kevin Garnett as a possible piece of the puzzle.

Boston General Manager Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers have enjoyed a great relationship over the years publicly, one can only speculate this situation could put a strain on the two mens friendship and jeopardize any possible return of Doc Rivers as Head Coach... As for the reports of him going to the Clippers as their Head Coach it would be great for the fans in LA. The Clippers have a great team of young talent that could use a Coach with Doc's experience, its no wonder why Clipper fans are hoping there is a Doc in the house!

Is there a Doc in the house? Currently Doc Rivers remains the acting Head Coach of the Boston Celtics but as the drama continues to boil you wonder if the Celtics will draw a line in the sand or fire him. This situation is very interesting because Doc is a very good Head Coach so you wonder if they do fire him what would be the reason? Has there been things developing behind the scene that we haven't been privy too? Like most things we will soon find out, the media will dig up all the dirt there is! Personally speaking I think Doc Rivers is perfect for the job with the LA Clippers, he's a well spoken media savvy guy that will take the Clippers more mainstream!

Is There A Doc In The House? Clipper Fans Want To Know...

If Doc Rivers ends up Coaching the Clippers there's one thing for sure, you'll see the Clippers in prime time a lot more then you ever have in the past! At The Point

At The Point!

Former New York Knicks point guard Jason Kidd is the new Head Coach for the Brooklyn Nets, he's gone from the floor to the bench but he's still at the point! Kidd has always been a coach on the floor and is known to be well respected by players, his transition into the ranks of Head Coach was expected but maybe not this quick... His selection comes with some trepidation by the prognosticators but to his peer group there's no surprise at all.
Brooklyn Nets general manger Billy King, left, smiles as head coach Jason Kidd speaks after Kidd was introduced as the team's new coach during an NBA basketball news conference Thursday, June 13, 2013, in New York
Nets New Head Coach, courtesy Yahoo Sports

There are many former guards that have gone onto experience great success as Head Coaches in the NBA for example; Doc Rivers, Avery Johnson, Byron Scott and Scott Skiles to name a few. I would expect Jason Kidd to join the ranks of a player at the point that does well long term. The big surprise is that the Nets passed on Indiana Pacers Assistant Head Coach Brian Shaw, who has worked with the Los Angeles Lakers under Phil Jackson during the Championship years. Shaw would be more then qualified, even more so then Kidd. In this particular situation, Brooklyn Nets couldn't loose either way!

the Brooklyn Nets current general at the point is Deron Williams, both Jason Kidd and Williams are good friends and have been for years. The relationship between the two is expected to be one of mutual respect and could work well together given the fact Kidd was a player this year and understands the demands placed on a point guard. Williams just wants to win and his direction on the court has been important to every team he's played for. If nothing else its going to be an exciting team to watch when the NBA kicks off next season...

At The Point, Jason Kidd Takes Head Coach Position

Do you think Jason Kidd will be successful as a Head Coach having not spent anytime working as an apprentice under an experienced Coach or will his time at the point be all the experience he'll need? Some players that have been out of the league for years have still not been given the opportunity to be a Head Coach, guys like Patrick Ewing and Brian Shaw may feel its unfair for guys to get a shot at the top without paying their dues. I think Kidd has been preparing for this for several years and is more then ready to take the point to start his second career...

Jamarcus Russell On The Road To Redemtion

Jamarcus Russell On The Road To Redemption

The one time NFL #1 Draft Pick of the Oakland Raiders has seen his share of disappointment during his short lived career but America loves a comeback story and it looks like the former QB's biography may not have its ending yet. If he were writing a book he could call it, "Jamarcus Russell On The Road To Redemption." He has been working extremely hard to earn a shot at playing in the NFL once again, he's lost at least fifty (50) pounds so far and still seems to have a cannon attached to his shoulder. I don't know if he is mentally or physically equipped to play in the NFL, more importantly, if he's mature enough to handle the demands he'll face if he gets the shot.
Oakland Raiders #1 Pick
Can he still play at the NFL level? Who knows! Does he deserve another opportunity to play in the league? If he can physically do it, then absolutely! America loves a good comeback story and this would be a great story! All he has to do is win and everything else will just be part of his future novel. We've seen so many athletes with worst reasons why they had to leave the game for personal issues and then given the opportunity to return to play. It always comes down to can he help a franchise win, if they believe he can then he will get the chance to try.

I'd kinda like to see him back in the NFL, I'd like to see just how strong an arm he's got and if the hype was justified. Hell he was just a kid when he was given all that money and the pressure of taking the Raiders to the promise land. The Raiders were a mess, the pressure of a spotlight glaring over him was bright enough to blind him and it was way too much money for a kid... You have probably seen the latest feature story about the young QB hopeful and I think Jamarcus Russell is on the road to redemption!
Glory Days, courtesy Wired.com

Jamarcus Russell On The Road To Redemption, Final Thoughts

The good news for Jamarcus is he's got a rocket of an arm and you can't buy or teach that! As long as he continues to show signs of maturity on and off the field we should see him back on some teams sidelines. If Tim Tebow can continue to land on and NFL team, Jamarcus Russell's road to redemption should end under bright lights.

NBA Finals Game 1

NBA Finals Game 1

NBA fans around the World were treated to a great home opener in Miami Florida, neither the Miami Heat or San Antonio Spurs disappointed. NBA Finals Game 1 has been every bit of what the prognosticators predicted, youth and athleticism against age and experience. The story lines for the series and both teams are worthy of two Championship organizations with a history. No one thought the Spurs would be intimidated by the defending Champs or their super star King James, what wasn't expected was to see how well the Spurs would keep up with the athleticism of the Heat.
Fans that watched NBA Finals game 1 witnessed two very good teams that have great respect for their opponent, both teams realize they are capable of beating each other and every possession counts! For the Spurs to go into Miami and take the first game is huge but the Heat have not lost back to back games in more then seventeen (17) playoff games. By far the biggest shot of the game was the Tony Parker bucket with five (5) seconds to go in the fourth putting the Spurs up by four (4).
Biggest Shot of the Night!

These two teams seem to be well matched but as we saw during the Indiana Pacers series against the Heat the size of the Spurs in the middle maybe a problem! More importantly Tim Duncan is a much more experienced player and will surely cause the Heat some issue. If the Heat are going to repeat the big three are going to have to bring it every game and the roll players are gonna have to do a better job on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball... As for LeBron James he can not be a passive facilitator, it's got to be more aggressive.

NBA Finals Game 1, Fired Up Spurs!

This series will shine a light on both Coaches, Eric Spoelstra has certainly done a good job of managing his super stars but this is the NBA Finals game 1 of the Championship Series and the Antonio Spurs are a more then worthy opponent!!! I for one thought the Heat would roll through the NBA this season until they ran into the Pacers and I believe they were exposed...

Blackhawks Roll

Blackhawks Roll

The Chicago Blackhawks roll over the Los Angeles Kings and take a 2-0 lead to Los Angeles for game three. The speed of the Blackhawks was just too much for the Kings who looked sluggish at best. Jonathan Quick had a rough night to say the least allowing four goals in the 4-2 lost, the good news for the Kings is they are now heading home for the next two games and they've been in this position before. They're hoping the familiarity of their home turf and the experience of having gone through this before will result in the same success!
Andrew Shaw #65

Blackhawk fans have a lot to be excited about, the team seem to be clicking on all cylinders while the Kings haven't had any answers for the speed and aggressive play. If the Kings don't regroup and recover from this 2-0 start, the Blackhawks roll will continue... LA Kings fans must bring a ton of energy when the Kings return home to begin their stand. Kings fans love their team and have been extremely supportive throughout their existence but if the team is going to dig its way out of this hole its gonna take all the Kings men to put them back on the right track...

What A Fan has in the past been accused of not posting enough about Hockey or its fans and we agree! I tell people all the time even though the sport may not be as popular as the NFL or the big three, there is no better time to watch this sport then during the Playoff's and a teams Championship run! This is an exciting game! Its got everything American sports fans love and are drawn to and its unfortunate its not massively supported here in the States. The Blackhawks roll through this 2013 season they have brought a great deal of attention to the sport, maybe this time next year Hockey will be a big part of What A Fan!

Blackhawks Roll And Hope It Continues!

The Chicago Blackhawks organization its players and fan base hope the Blackhawks roll will continue on the road. They're two wins away from hoisting the Stanley Cup over their heads and closing out, potentially, one of their most successful seasons. All of us at What A Fan will be watching along with the fans of both teams, game 3 in Los Angeles Stable Center is going to be rocking...

Stop The Violence, Enough Is Enough

Stop The Violence, Enough Is Enough

This past week Matt Fortese who's been a life long New York Yankee's fan drove 75 miles to watch his team take on the Baltimore Orioles. He was meeting a date, which would be their second, he was taking to the game until it all went terribly bad. Two men that didn't like Matt wearing a Yankee's cap decided to beat him senseless! Matt is currently in serious condition and the two idiots, now in custody, have changed his life forever... Events as senseless as this effect true sports fans deeply, it's time we stop the violence, enough is enough...
Faces of Shame!

Just a few years ago Byran Stow a San Fransisco Giants fan was brutally beat in the parking lot at a Dodgers game, this incident set off serious concern amongst not only sports fans but the teams they cheer for as well... It was time to take a closer look at the issue of visiting fans safety. A concerned fan in Oakland California decided to do more then just talk, she jumped into action. Sports fans lite up the social networks displaying their anger over a fellow fan being injured and support for him and his family... Fans Against Violence was born. Its time to stop the violence, enough is enough!!!
Bryan Stow Leaving the Hospital

Horrific assaults like this recent one of Matt Fortese is a sad reminder of how important it is for teams to be more aware of the issues surrounding visiting fans safety. Teams can not survive on their fan base alone, visiting fans are equally as important and should be treated with the same respect extended to the home teams fans!!!! Well publicized assaults on visiting fans like this is not good for the team, the city or its fan base. What message are you sending to other visiting fans who have planned to attend their favorite teams game. To the fans of all sports and every city across America, stop the violence, enough is enough...

Stop The Violence, Enough Is Enough!

When will fans realize FANS HAVE MORE IN COMMON THEN DIFFERENCE! Violence towards another sports fan that's representing their team is just beyond stupid... Be responsible and respectful of visiting fans help stop the violence, enough is enough! We see and hear some pretty remarkably stupid things from fans but we're not built to judge, we are here to honor and support fans, it's time you honor yourselves...Violence just leads to more violence and we need to remember that our actions dictate and represent our team!
Join them on Facebook!

Take a moment and look at yourself in the mirror. Ask yourself, do I walk the walk? Am I representing my team to the up most respect? Am I doing everything in my power to motivate other fans to take care of each instead of provoking violence? Let's join forces and STOP THE VIOLENCE, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!

Join What A Fan in Orlando Florida for the First Annual Sports Fan Conference August 30th to September 1st Labor Day Weekend. Fans from around the country will be attending and one of the work shops is specifically about fan on fan violence. It will be a weekend of celebration with passionate caring and supportive sports fans, knuckleheads need not attend...!!!

Kevin Durant Is Helping A City Recover

Kevin Durant Helps A City Recover

Oklahoma City Thunder All Star Kevin Durant has been a beloved NBA Player that Thunder fans have embraced with open arms, it seems the feeling is mutual... Recently Oklahoma City was devastated by a tornado that ripped through the City killing hundreds and destroying an entire community. At the communities lowest point the Thunder super star donated one million dollars to a town in turmoil. Kevin Durant is helping a city recover from a horrific tragedy, his actions have caught many people off guard in a wonderful way. Professional athletes are not usually the first to reach out especially with their own money but Kevin has proven he not only plays in OKC his heart is all in...
Kevin Durant Jersey Last Thing Standing!

After visiting the devastation he was completely speechless but the families that were there to greet him could not say or thank him enough for the support he has provided their community. Kevin Durant is helping a city recover and also leading the way for other big name athletes. The Los Angeles Dodgers All Star Matt Kemp, who grew up in Oklahoma, also pledged two hundred and fifty thousand dollars and praised Kevin Durant for his contribution to his home town. I have to say this story and the acts of kindness touched me deeply, I have worked with several high profile athletes and it was like pulling teeth to get them to reach in the own pocket...

Today's professional athletes make an enormous amount of money and live very comfortable lives but its events like the tornado in OKC that bring out the best in the athletes we love and support. Kevin Durant is helping a city recover because he can and cares and he should be honored as the hero he is to all those that will be helped by his generosity. We are all quick to condemn athletes when they do stupid things we should be just a fast to praise the efforts when they show acts of kindness...

RG3 Stronger, Better, Smarter

RG3 Stronger, Better, Smarter

Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III is on the road to recovery and he's hoping he will be ready for the season opener. RG3 stronger, better, smart could spell trouble for the teams in his division. The team seems to be handling the recovery well not letting him do too much but giving him the opportunity to push the limits to be ready and accomplish his goal of being on the field for the opener. One thing for sure is everyone will be judged harshly if the team botches his recovery and he's not able to compete at the level we all know he is capable of...
Golden Child!

When the injury sidelined the star QB last season tons of questions began swirling around the Head Coaches decision to leave him in the game, since then there have been prognosticators chiming in and RG3's Father even lashed out with his concerns for his son being placed in the right situation... No one more then Mike Shanahan wants RG3 healthy and on the field to give the team an opportunity to win... RG3 strong, better, smarter is just what the Redskins need him to be! Please believe me when I tell you the Washington Redskins will not have their golden goose running as much as he did last season.

One of the other issues facing RG3 is not just his knee but all the extra curricular activities surrounding the young super star, his twitter post, wedding registry mishaps and Dads coaching from the sidelines is adding to his problems and more questions I'm sure he would love to see go away! He needs to be able to focus on the knee and getting ready for the upcoming season. His mind set must change as it relates to sliding and not taking big hits that could hurt his team and finally understand new teammates and his role as the Redskins long term future star QB... RG3 stronger, better, smarter is exactly what he must be to take his team deeper into the NFL Playoff's.

RG3 Stronger, Better, Smarter and Healthy!

There's no question about it the Redskins are handling RG3 with kid gloves but he has also become a National Treasure in Washington DC and that could add more stress and expectation to the shoulders of the Redskins and their head Coach. It will also add pressure to the young super star. RG3 set the bar extremely high for himself after a record setting season last year, RG3 stronger, better, smarter will be just what the doctor ordered but WINS will be what the fans are watching for!

Alonzo Mourning In The News

Alonzo Mourning In The News

Former NBA Great Alonzo Mourning in the news today may have opened up a can of worms when he said LeBron James would beat Micheal Jordans ass on the court. What? Yeah, that's right, that's what he said... I had to try and take my personal opinion out of it when I decided to write about this topic, but I can't! I'm a huge fan of MJ and his accomplishments during his years in the NBA. Alonzo is way off base here and he should know better...
Alonzo Mourning

Why is Alonzo Mourning in the news anyway? That fact that people are still trying to compare the current generation of NBA Players to Air Highness is a testament to his greatness! MJ played against some of the greatest NBA Players in NBA History, Hall of Fame Greatness. Go back and look at the list of super stars he had to go through on his rise to greatness and compare them to the players LeBron is currently competing against... There's no comparison, period... Don't get me wrong there are some very good players still playing during this King James era but C'Mon Man, nothing like the legends that played during the Air Jordan era.

I found Alonzo's comments to be just about a guy showing love to a player on a team he is still heavily involved with, I just can't take it serious! MJ was praised by the legends he played against not because they wanted to show him some love, it was because he was spanking all of their butts and they couldn't do anything about it... Alonzo Mourning in the news talking about anyone beating Micheal Jordan on a basketball court is just plain silly!
Greatness, Past and Present!

Alonzo Mourning In The News

What do you think? Is Alonzo right or has he lost his mind? Leave your comment below... Now to be fair, King James is a beast! He is truly a gifted athlete and the NBA's best player, not taking anything away from him or his talent but lets leave it right there!!!!! If none of the NBA Legends, now Hall of Famers, couldn't beat his ass what makes you think LeBron would have been that guy? Alonzo Mourning in the news is the bigger story then ridiculous comment he made...

Winning Fixes Everything!

Winning Fixes Everything!

Sports fans don't ask for much and certainly don't have much of a say as it relates to what happens in the world of sports but what we do ask and hope for are wins! Fans don't always get what they want but there always there, thick or thin, good times and bad fans see it all... Last season the Miami Heat lead by LeBron James won the NBA Championship, the first of many they hope for King James. This year Tiger Woods has returned to form winning four of his last seven tournaments played on the PGA Tour. These amazing achievements have been a reminder that winning fixes everything! These are the same to men that were the hated villains of their sport two years ago but today they are celebrated for the dominant talents they both bring to their respective sports...
Tiger & King James

No truer words then winning fixes everything have been more accurately spoken or written relative to the lives of Tiger Woods and LeBron James. One man, Tiger, was said to be done and should just give up his goal of breaking the Golden Bear's record of PGA Major Tournament wins and the other, LeBron, ostracized by a Team and its fan base because he decided to exercise his right to play for another Team! No two men were beat up, talked about and judged by prognosticators more then Tiger and LeBron, but neither of them ever doubted the talents... Americans, fans and the media sometimes judge quickly and harshly but maybe that's way we admire our Super Star Athletes when they win despite the criticism of their detractors.
Focused Aggression!

Winning Fixes Everything and Then Some!

America prides itself on winning, our competitive spirit fuels pretty much everything we do! Is it any wonder why we believe winning fixes everything? Of course its not true but that's the culture we've created for ourselves and the dangerous lesson we find ourselves passing on the our children. We all make bad decisions from time to time but just win baby and it will all be alright... Show the world you're a winner and there's not a door you can't walk through, but make the same bad decision and continue to loose and you are shit outta luck!

We hope you will continue to support What A Fan. Don't miss the upcoming Sports Fan Conference in Orlando Florida Labor Day Weekend 2013.

Miami Heat Fan Filomena Tobias is Catching Hell

Miami Heat Fan Filomena Tobias is Catching Hell

Yesterday What A Fan post a blog called "Fans Crossing The Line" it was about the woman that gave Joakim Noah the finger after being ejected. We've been surprised by the reaction this blog has received until we learned who the woman is and her colorful background. Miami Heat Fan Filomena Tobias is Catching Hell, they call her the Black Widow but honestly we don't care about her colorful pass what she did at this game was uncalled for!
Over The Top!

Leave it to the media to infringe upon someones personal life to capitalize on a story that's gone viral. Don't get me wrong what she did was pure rude, period! But to rip this poor woman, poor rich woman, for a mistake made and she's embarrassed by is equally crossing the line. Its so unfortunate the Miami Heat Fan Filomena Tobias is Catching Hell but she did bring it on herself. Is this now the way we address mistakes made by human beings? Please leave your answer below. This isn't right. If we are going to comment on the stupid actions of the Miami Heat fans actions shouldn't we have the same disdain for the media that cross the line? Do you think they've crossed the line? Leave your comments below.

Hell, in the heat of the Playoff's, in any sport we've all said or done some pretty stupid things, fortunately no-one caught on camera! So if your living in a glass house shut the hell up!!! We are all fans we are extremely expressive somethings it can be viewed as too much in the case of Miami Heat Fan Filomena Tobias who is now catching hell she went over the top! Now let it go, lets get back to the important stuff.
We Told Him Baby! :(

Miami Heat Fan Filomena Tobias Catching Hell

This has been an interesting blog story for us because it wasn't meant to be a story we didn't like the reflection her actions were on fans so we spoke out. Pitching With Fear

Pitching With Fear

Major League Baseball is facing a growing issue regarding the safety of Pitchers. The recent incident with Toronto Blue Jay Pitcher JA Happ has escalated what has been a problem for the League for a while now. Pitching with fear is now common place for some of the best and most high profile position on the field. To MLB's credit this is not a issue they're try to sweep under a rug, as a matter of fact they has stepped up searching for ways to protect their multimillion dollar men.
JA Happ Hit by Batter

Progress is being made although nothing has been introduced yet. What Major League Baseball doesn't want to do is to create a false since of security for players by giving them a solution that hasn't been well tested or thought out. For now pitching with fear is something MLB players will just have to deal with in their own way. The bigger issue is among little league baseball, how can we better control the problem with our children that love and play the game? Whatever the solution in the big league it will have to be incorporated on all levels...

The good news is its an issue everyone is taking extremely seriously! MLB typically moves very methodically but in this case the alternatives are just to dangerous! When it happens in a game its unavoidable and well publicized and that's not a good look for MLB.  Pitcher are to valuable to their teams, the League and the fans to allow them to have the extra added concern of pitching with fear.
Felix Hernandez

Pitching With Fear, What's Next?

As the players in the Major Leagues get stronger and faster there will no doubt be additional concerns that will need to be addressed, keeping the players safe and on the field is and will always be top priority. Pitching with fear should not and can not be on the minds of a pitcher, there has to be a way to better protect them, and in this case soon is better then later.

NBA Super Fan

NBA Super Fan

It's that time of year when NBA super fans show there true passion. Turn on a NBA Playoff game and you'll notice fans united in team colors cheering loud and proud not an empty seat in the house and the noise is deafening to opposing teams players. It's the time of year that everyone must pull together and the roll of sports fans are equally important to the energy of the players they cheer for! It's NBA Playoff Basketball and the fans are in the building...
James Goldstein, standing during the national anthem before Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals on May 31, 2012, has been a courtside figure in arenas for decades. He’s beloved by the NBA world because of his love for the game. (Edward A. Ornelas / San Antonio Express-News)
Jimmy Goldstein NBA Super Fan

No-one knows more about this time of year then Jimmy Goldstein. A long time Los Angeles Laker fan that has become a NBA super fan known around the League because he travels to most of the Playoff games across the country. If you watch or have been to a Playoff game chances are you've seen Jimmy, wildly dressed in leather typically with his signature wide brim hat he's a hard one to miss. Jimmy is an old school sports fan, he's not just there to be seen he's a knowledgeable fan that understands the strategic game within the game. You can sometimes find him chatting with players before and after the game, many of them have come to know him well and appreciate his presences.

What A Fan has known Jimmy for nearly eighteen (18) years, when we first started shooting our pilot he was one of our first interviews. We found out then he not only loves the game of basketball, he's one hell of a nice guy! He's another example of how awesome it is to meet fans that at first glance you might judge incorrectly... NBA super fans may not be as colorful as NFL or Soccer fans but their passion is just as strong!

NBA Super Fans, Its Our Time!

NBA super fans seem to extend a great deal of energy during Playoff runs, having been part of that environment I can tell you first hand how tired you are after leaving a game but the feeling is incredible... Next time your watching a NBA Playoff game see if you can spot our friend Jimmy Goldstein or if you make it to a game and run into him tell What A Fan says hi!!!

The LeBron James Era

The LeBron James Era

Yesterday LeBron James won his fourth NBA MVP placing him in the rare air of NBA Greats such as Michael Jordan, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell. The LeBron James era has begun and NBA fans may now realize we are all watching history in the making. I never had the chance to see Wilt, Russell or Jabbar play live but I did begin to watch basketball while Jabbar was still playing and he was pretty amazing. Like many of you I was blessed to a fan during Michael Jordan's dominance, we all knew he was a special basketball player but because there were so many big name amazing players that came before him I don't think we realized we were watching history.
Number Four (4) and Counting.

Now that we have MJ's resume to compare current and future players we can tell when someone special has come along and King James may just be that guy. Yeah he's a long way off from any real comparisons, like six rings away, but his accomplishments do speak loudly... I've always thought Kobe Bryant was, is, the closes thing to Jordan I'd ever seen and I still think he is the most comparable but King James is like nothing we've seen since Magic Johnson. You better believe the LeBron James era is in full effect...

LeBron has the size and passing ability of Magic, the skill and jumping ability of Jordan along with his defensive game. In other words he's a pure beast and he's only getting better. He may only have one Championship to his credit but he's young in good health and plays for the best team in the NBA, the LeBron James era is just getting started! Before becoming the villain after he's dramatic exit from Cleveland his media campaign "Witness" was more accurate then any of us realized. We are all witnesses whether we want to be or not, which really is a sign of greatness wouldn't you say?
The New Face of NBA Dominance

The LeBron James Era, It's Here!

I for one think its pretty awesome to be a witness to some of the greatest NBA Players on earth. To have seen Magic, Shaq, Kobe, Jordan, Malone and now LeBron has been a highlight in my sports fan life. I just hope I'll be around to see the next generation of super star enter the League with reckless abandonment. If you're a sports fan how could you not enjoy the level of talent the LeBron James era has brought to the game?

Violence In The Stands

Violence In The Stands

There are too many incidents of violence in the stands among sports fans and the reasons are beyond stupid. Attending sporting events should be anything but an awesome time with your friends or family, the last thing you should have to worry about is getting into a fight or even witnessing an altercation with another teams fan.

What's The Problem?

In a word, alcohol... Drinking before and during a sporting event is certainly part of the experience. No one would argue that drinking is different for everyone but it increases the possibility of violence. Hatred is another problem, not toward another human being but for another teams color. A hatred that runs deep and is passed on generation to generation but hating another team should not be an excuse for violence in the stands.

Why Should I Fear Going To Away Games?

You shouldn't have to have any anxiety about supporting your team away from your home teams environment! Fans of all genres have a common bond that runs through each and every one of us a similar bond shared by the very teams and players we venomously support. We should extend the same respect to opposing sports fans before and after any game and boo like hell against them during, but the violence in the stands has to be eliminated...

What Can I Do?

Remember the reason you go to sporting events in the first place, TO SUPPORT YOUR TEAM! If that's not the first and ultimate reason you go then your possibly part of the problem... It's a fans responsibility to bring our energy our noise our passion not our drama!!! Leave your troubles at the gate, enjoy the day with people of like minds, share a laugh with someone you don't know and you may be surprised by how much you have in common. Violence in the stands is absolutely unacceptable to all of us at What A Fan, we hope you share our view!
How Does This Help Your Team Win?

There have been entirely too many unnecessary physical altercations in the stands and during what should have been a great day of tailgating parties that result in someone permanently effected. There is much in life we can't control but preventing violence in the stands is something we have complete control of, so what will you do about it???

Junior Seau Gone But Not Forgotten

Junior Seau Gone But Not Forgotten

Today is the one year anniversary of Junior Seau's death we thought we would take this opportunity to celebrate our pass experience with this mountain of a man, Junior Seau may be gone but not forgotten! Like most of you the news that Junior had taken his own life was shocking no one could have seen that coming. The toll it has taken on his family is inconceivable and was very much unexpected, we can only hope the resource that is being done will prevent this from happening to future NFL Stars and anyone dealing with or has had concussions.
Junior Seau Gone But Not Forgotten!!!

I first meet Junior in Los Angeles for dinner, we were meeting about his interest in looking at opportunities in the entertainment industry. I had become the go to guy in LA for booking athletes on television shows including sitcoms, talk shows and a few movies. Professional athletes would refer their teammates and that's how Junior and I connected. We met at a great spot on Sunset, I'll never forget it because he brought his wife and he ask Drew Breeze to meet him there as well. I've always been a huge NFL fan so the fan in me was pretty excited about sitting there with Breeze and Seau but I actually had more fun talking with his wife who was cracking jokes on Seaus acting ability! We ultimately did book Junior on a show for a cameo appearance which he nailed by the way.
Hollywood Looks

I would often travel to San Diego, first off because its my favorite City in California but I'd also attend a few San Diego Charger games and stop in and see Junior at his Seau's Restaurant after the game, It was a great place. He was always on the move constantly greeting folks and being pulled from all sides but he was so accommodating to everyone. I got to know the people running his Foundation, which was his baby, and all of my Players had or worked with charities so we would all help each others efforts with signed memorabilia or make appearances from time to time. It was like one big family they just happen to be Professional Athlete's and all them admired and respected Junior. Junior Seau gone but not forgotten! The last time I saw Junior was at the Super Bowl in Miami we were part of media day and there he was same guy being pulled by everyone wanting to talk to the future Hall of Famer. It was great to share another cool moment with an old friend, who knew it would be my last!

Junior Seau Gone But Not Forgotten

Many star athletes pass some have taken their own life, this one hit close to home for me and many of us. He was a great guy, funny, gracious, accommodating and giving human being and we'll miss him! Junior Seau is gone but not forgotten!
RIP!
