Jackie Robinson Day

Jackie Robinson Day

Today Major League Baseball celebrates the legendary accomplishments of Jackie Robinson. One of the most historic movements in American History selfishly initiated by a Baseball Owner and a Black Man that just wanted to play ball. Baseballs pioneer was not only an amazing and gifted ball player he was also an incredible humanitarian. His strength on and off the field changed lives, changed race relations among his peers and most importantly change the game of Baseball.

In honor of this great man players on every team in the big leagues will wear Jackie Robinson's number 42. No player has had as big an impact on the game then Jackie, players of all race and nationality owe a debt of gratitude to him and his accomplishments. Athletes play for pride, love of the game, the opportunity to win and yes the money. Jackie Robinson played for his life and the lives of those who would follow behind him. Death threats were real, the hatred thrown at him would be unbearable today.

We not only celebrate what Jackie was able to do for baseball we celebrate the growth of a country once embarrassed by our actions. Looking back during that time we've come a long way, the game of baseball is better because of the actions of one man and an owner that just saw green! If you're a real fan of the game you know the story of Jackie Robinson and hopefully you've told his story to your kids. His story is not just a baseball story it's an American story and we should feel a responsibility to keep this amazing accomplishment alive...
